Rainhill Alonzo the Brave was born on 19 April, the same day as Lampeter Show, and so we missed the Show! He is a strong black colt and a full brother to Rainhill Olwen (chestnut) and Rainhill Rowena (bay). Alonzo is named after the Hackney stallion born in 1866 whose blood appears in the pedigrees of 16 of the first 70 stallions registered in the Welsh Stud Book. The 1866 Alonzo the Brave was almost certainly named after a character of that name from an 18th century poem which we have always enjoyed: ’Alonzo the Brave and Fair Imogine’. To download the poem and share our enjoyment click here. In the summer of 2009 we sold Alonzo.
