It was a wild night when Olwen was born and we brought her into the stables with her mother and Aileen wrapped her in blankets because she was shivering so much. Within a couple of days she was striding around, alert,and looking every inch a champion. At her first show, the Southern Counties Association Spring Show, where she neither behaved nor performed she won the Yearling Filly Class and was Reserve Youngstock and Reserve Section D Champion. Wins followed at the South of England and Northleach (and Reserve Youngstock Champion), second at the Royal and fourth at the Royal Welsh. More successes followed in 2006 and in 2007 Olwen had wins at Devon and Southern Counties WPCA shows and was second at Bath and West, Three Counties and the Royal Show. On 23 March 2008 (Easter Day) Olwen had a colt foal, Rainhill Flyer, by our 23 year old stallion Ystrad Dewi Flyer. In August 2008 Olwen won the mares class at the Southen Counties Association Show and went on to become Section D Champion (WPCS Bronze Medal) and Supreme Champion of the Show. Olwen was broken to ride in 2009 and competed successfully under saddle in 2009 and 2010. It was great to have her back to show in hand in 2011. We had lots of fun with wins at the Championship Show, Devon County (and Champion), Avon and Border Counties and South Eastern WPCA shows. We continued to show Olwen in hand with great success and at her last outing in 2015 she was Show Champion at the Southern Counties WPCA Show. In 2016, after an intensive course of anti biotics for a foot infection Olwen had awful stomach problems and was unwell for a year. She is now back to good health and is happy and cheerful.
